Oliver: Gluten Detection Dog in Training

Updated: 2 days ago

"When we got Oliver, I had no intention of him becoming my service dog. It wasn't until he was a few months old that I started doing research for training gluten detection dogs. When he was six months old I found Kari! When we did an initial test, he ended up doing really well. Once he started the program, he's been so excited and motivated to work. At 9 months old, he was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia, which I thought would make him unable to continue as a service dog. Surprisingly, the vet said scent work is great for dogs with joint issues so after he healed from surgery, we continued (with our veterinarian's and surgeon's approval) and he ended up making a full recovery. After his break from lessons, Oliver picked it all back up quickly and has been doing amazing ever since! Kari has been so supportive along the way, and I love how she has been able to cater the lessons to his needs and has new ideas when we need to re-strategize for him, which makes it much easier than I had expected. We still have a ways to go but we are so proud of all of all he has accomplished!"
